Tim Nicholson and Brian Glassel opened the doors to the very first Glass Nickel in November of 1997. From then on they have never stopped innovating or improving the operation. This evolution has resulted in widespread community acclaim, retention of many prestigious local awards for their products and services as well as the creation of an incredible business model and brand!

Michael Nicholson, Director of Franchise Operations, left the corporate business world to join the Glass Nickel team in 2007. He was attracted to the opportunity primarily out of admiration for the business model which has been built and refined over the last decade. Bringing the business model to new owners and new communities has quickly become his personal mission and life’s passion.

From operational efficiencies to go-to-market strategies, we’ve invested years on our processes and systems in order to provide customers, employees and owners with high levels of satisfaction. By combining our collective backgrounds we are able to offer franchisees expert advice, guidance and systems that will lead to satisfied customers, organized and efficient operations and a richer community.

We cater to what today’s customers crave: pizza, pasta, salads and sandwiches - made fresh to order and loaded with traditional and gourmet toppings. We satisfy all through our expansive menu and offer many health conscious options. We also satisfy consumers’ need for convenience through delivery and carryout options.

Environmental Awareness

Here at The Glass Nickel Pizza Co. we don’t claim to be the world’s most earth friendly business, but we try to reduce our footprint and usually have some sort of experiment going on. Following are a few such experiments or initiatives that have stuck. Our flagship store on Atwood Avenue in Madison is outfitted with LED lights. The Atwood and Fitchburg stores operate energy efficient ovens that automatically shut down when not in use. The Atwood store, as well as others, also utilize several converted diesel vehicles that run on waste vegetable oil from our fryers. Our Oshkosh store owner uses efficient Smart cars for delivery and you’ll find hybrids at use delivering Glass Nickel pizza throughout Wisconsin. While we believe in and encourage such practices we also feel strongly in keeping our cost of entrance low. Aside from requiring franchisees to operate an alternative fuel vehicle (hybrid, electric, or “grease car”) by their third year of operation we don’t mandate other green practices but we will support our business partners who want to take steps in beneficial directions.
